Prof. Dr. Hagen Fleischer
Prof. Dr. Hagen Fleischer, National Kapodistrian University of Athens, has studied journalism and history at Freie Universität Berlin, and has spent four decades researching the entire spectrum of German-Greek relations in the 20th century and in particular the Second World War in both countries. He was the first to teach the taboo topics “Second World War- Occupation- Resistance- Collaboration” at Greek universities and he organized the first scientific conferences in Greece about the Occupation and the Civil War. Fleischer’s book “Crown and Swastika,” published in 1986, is still considered a standard work on the occupation of Greece during Second World War. In February 2014, the Federal President Joachim Gauck invited him to the Bellevue Palace as an expert in preparation for Gauck’s visit to Greece.
