The headquarters of the SS in Athens were in Merlin Street. Merlin was described by former prisoners as "Hell House" and it was a building with prison cells and torture chambers. It was in Merlin that the notorious interrogations took place, and the prisoners, after days of torture and imprisonment were deported to concentration camp of Chaidari. The SS headquarters does no longer exist and during the 1980s it was transformed into a shopping mall. At the entrance, at number 6, a memorial was erected and an original cell door was installed.
